**Head of Legal, Business Lending & Private Wealth**

**How will I help?**
The Practice Group Head leads the Business Lending and Private Wealth Legal team. The team supports all of Business Lending and Private Wealth’s businesses (Westpac, St George, Bank SA, Bank of Melbourne) in Australia and works directly with the business and closely with their Legal, Risk and Compliance colleagues.
The Practice Group Head, as a leader of leaders, plays a crucial role in managing the efficient deployment of B&W Legal’s expertise across this diverse and complex business.
**Some of the key accountabilities are**:
- Leadership of Business Lending and Private Wealth legal team. As a member of the Business & Wealth Legal leadership team, participate in decisions relating to Business & Wealth Legal.
- Decision making for key BL and PW Legal issues involving the Corporations Act, ASIC Act, Unfair Contract Terms legislation, the PPSA, Privacy Act, Banking Code of Practice, Banking Act, National Consumer Credit Protection Act and National Credit Code and regulatory guides, and familiarity with the general regulatory framework relevant to ADIs, including AFSLs, ACLs and relevant Prudential Standards.
- Proactive identification and communication (leveraging the Business & Wealth Legal leadership team) of future emerging legal issues impacting the Business Lending and Private Wealth businesses.
- Comprehensive planning, identification and ‘best practice’ management of risks and processes relevant to legal support for the Business Lending and Private Wealth businesses.
- Attending and influencing at senior stakeholder meetings, working groups and steering committees.

**What do I need?**
- Admitted as a solicitor with a valid practising certificate in Australia. Minimum of 12-15 years PQE.
- Extensive experience as a Practice Group Head, Practice Leader, Head of Legal or equivalent in a major financial institution.
- Subject matter expert, with depth of knowledge and understanding of the legal issues impacting key business areas within Business Lending and Private Wealth
- Substantial private practice or in-house legal experience covering one or more of the areas of focus for the Business Lending and Private Wealth businesses (eg the Corporations Act, ASIC Act, Unfair Contract Terms legislation, the PPSA, Privacy Act, Banking Code of Practice, Banking Act, National Consumer Credit Protection Act and National Credit Code and regulatory guides) and familiarity with the general regulatory framework relevant to ADIs, including AFSLs, ACLs and Prudential Standards (as relevant).Excellent problem solving, decision making and judgement skills
