Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital
As Injury Management Specialist you will be responsible for the case management of injured or unwell caregivers to enable their ability to stay at or return to work. You will develop, implement and coordinate early intervention rehabilitation programs to ensure the provision of an effective and responsive service.
You will provide input and advice for workers compensation issues and non-work-related injury or illness to divisional line leaders and senior leadership as well as the Workers Compensation Insurance Manager to maintain national consistency and ensures adherence with policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
The Position- Ensure early intervention and rehabilitation following injury or illness is promptly and effectively identified and that the caregiver’s line leader is actively involved in the process.- Promote and provide education to divisional leadership and caregivers on the requirements of early intervention and injury management.- Initiate early intervention referrals to preferred providers, where necessary, in consultation with the line leader.- Facilitate a return-to-work program involving relevant parties by identifying and negotiating appropriate duties and liaising with treating practitioners and line leaders in relation to the treatment regime and capacity for return to work.- Actively work with the workers’ compensation claims team to ensure a safe and early return to work.- Maintain confidential and secure records using an injury management database in accordance with relevant legislation.- Assess, authorise and monitor medical and like expenses.- Provide advice and ensure compliance to relevant legislation pertaining to workers’ compensation and best practice injury management standards in accordance with Group policies.- Undertake regular claims reviews with divisional line leaders and the CEO, including quarterly claims reviews at divisions (with the insurer).- Participate in any WorkSafe inspections pertaining to Return to Work (RTW) Inspectorate investigation/audits.- Support the division in the management of non-work related RTW illnesses/injuries including referrals for fitness for duty assessments, drug and alcohol screens, and RTW Plan preparation and management.- Develop injury prevention strategies in collaboration with OHS.- Administer the Workers’ Compensation, Journey and Volunteer Claims as per the current policy and procedures and the Workers’ Compensation and Injury Management legislative requirements.- Liaise with injured caregivers and their line leaders, payroll representatives, treating health professionals and insurance representatives.- Participate in SJGHC Regional and Group OHS and/or Injury Management forums and network meetings as scheduled.- Participate as part of the wider Group IR/ER team to build insight from across the Group and improve outcomes.
You will have well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop and maintain rapport with internal and external stakeholders. With well-developed computer skills and experience in using a range of software packages, including databases, spreadsheets and word processing, you will have the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and to work to deadlines.
You will hold substantial industry experience in workplace based early intervention programs, rehabilitation and claims management with well-developed planning and organisational skills. You will have the ability to manage workloads effectively with mínimal direction and supervision.
With sound skills in identifying trends and issues related to injuries and making recommendations that contribute towards ongoing improvement, you will have the ability to interpret and understand statistical data, and to use that information to improve systems and processes.
To succeed you will hold or be able to obtain a RTW Coordinators certificate with demonstrated understanding of Workers’ Compensation legislation. A current Driver’s license and flexibility to travel intra-state will also be required.
