The Civil Law and Regulatory Branch develops and implements policy, legislation and programs relating to general civil law; administrative law; access to justice; legal assistance; courts and tribunals; citizens’ rights and consumer protection; residential tenancies; defamation; human rights; discrimination; privacy; courts and tribunals; retirement villages; commercial law; property; liquor, racing and gaming policy and a range of regulatory matters.

An opportunity exists in the Access to Justice business unit. The team undertakes a range of justice policy work including developing and implementing policy and legislation relating to legal assistance, courts and tribunal legal policy, judicial and tribunal appointments, and policy responsibility for the ACT’s implementation of the National Redress Scheme.

The Access to Justice team is seeking a policy officer with an interest in justice policy matters and an ability to work independently across a variety of matters to set timeframes in a busy work environment. You will have well developed written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to prepare policies, procedures and other complex written documents using your research and analytical skills.

The role requires building strong relationships with stakeholders including Legal Aid and community legal centres through the implementation of the National Legal Assistance Partnership agreement and other funding arrangements and developing legal policy to support the sector. The role supports the progression of legislation to support and enhance access to justice.

**Eligibility/Other Requirements**:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications, or significant study towards gaining qualifications, or experience within a justice environment is highly desirable, but not essential.
- Experience in developing and managing programs is desirable.
