A central federal government department is seeking an all-rounder commercial lawyer for an initial 6 months.

**Your new company**

This central department plays a curial role in assisting a wide-range of policy areas across federal government to meet priority policy outcomes. This branch partners with business areas internally in the department to provide a high standard of legal, governance and assurance advice. The commercial law team is responsible for providing strategic commercial and corporate legal advice across all policy, procurement and commercial litigation topics.

**Your new role**

The commercial law team is looking for an APS5/6 Commercial Lawyer who has an all-rounder approach to work. Your new role will see you responsible for:

- Providing legal advice across a wide range of activities of the department including procurement of legal services through whole of government arrangements, contract negotiation and dispute resolution.
- Legal drafting to reflect a clear understanding of the departments operations and strategic environment.
- Promote and management relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including law firms, senior executives and internal policy teams.

**What you'll need to succeed**

To be successful in this role you will need to be a highly motivated self-starter who has demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:

- Experience in commercial law within an APS setting
- Ability to be an all-rounder and work within a small close-knit team
- Strong stakeholder negotiation skills with ability to manage complex contracts.
- Ability to hold and obtain a baseline clearance.
