Targeted Vacancy
This position has been identified as a position to be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person because of a number of factors, including the gross over representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders in custody. It is an occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted and arguable under Sections 25, 104, and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
Community Corrections is responsible for supervising adult clients in the community and is divided into seven regions each with a number of District Offices and reporting centres. Community Corrections staff aim to protect the community and reduce re-offending by supervising clients in the community in which they live and encourage clients to adopt more pro-social attitudes and behaviours.
**The essential requirements for this role are**:
Ability to contribute to and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Current knowledge and interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues, trends and practices and their impact on criminal behaviour with a drive for continual learning and professional development.
Proven ability to establish and maintain stakeholder relationships (particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations) including where the working relationship is at distance, in order to promote positive service outcomes.
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to maintain effective internal and external professional partnerships.
Self-awareness and ability to be a positive representative of QCS and ability to role model behaviours and attitudes in alignment with QCS values and priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to produce written reports, represent QCS and contribute within forums and meetings.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of issues and information.
Qualifications, professional registration, conditions and other requirements
The incumbent may be required to travel on official business. The possession of a C class licence is required and will be mandatory in specific locations where it is identified as essential by the hiring panel.
Whilst the successful applicant will be primarily based on the Gold Coast working from the Southport and Burleigh Heads locations, travel may be required across other South Coast Region locations, including Beenleigh and Logan City.
People who work within the Community Corrections environment may be exposed to information about offending behaviours, criminal activity and other explicit, distressing or offensive content. Whilst Queensland Corrective Services offers an employee assistance program for our employees and their immediate family, prospective employees should consider their own personal resilience and consider what coping strategies they may need in a position with QCS Community Corrections.
A suitability pool may be created and utilised for similar recurring vacancies within the region for a period of up to 12 months.
