**TARGETED VACANCY - This is an Identified position: It is a genuine occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. One of the referees should be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant's background, knowledge, skills, and experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities.

The Cultural Practice Advisor key responsibilities are:

- Effectively and positively engage with children, families, carers and service providers (including both government and non-government agencies) to support the cultural needs of children and families to achieve their identified case plan goals and cultural support plan goals.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including children and parents, families and Recognised Entities to support the establishment and strengthening of effective safety and support networks, including connection to extended family, community, country and culture.
- Provide high quality cultural advice and direction to assist in informing decisions about the safety needs of children, particularly where complex child protection worries are present.
- Participate effectively and provide cultural leadership in a multidisciplinary team to deliver well-planned and culturally appropriate family support services to children and families experiencing vulnerability.
- Prepare and maintain quality case records in accordance with departmental case management requirements.
- Contribute to strengthening workforce cultural capability through sharing your cultural advice, knowledge of communities, and awareness of culturally significant processes and events.

Your contribution:
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will draw on your personal experience and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions and customs to provide high quality, culturally safe and appropriate child protection services to children, families and carers serviced by the Child Protection Act 1999.

You will work across Child Safety Service Centres and in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations, supporting the growth and expansion of Delegated Authority.

You will have a clear focus on the provision of culturally appropriate services and will use your own cultural expertise and knowledge to foster respectful relationships with communities and enhance positive relationships between children/young people and their families. You will share your cultural knowledge and contribute to growing the department's cultural capability.

Role specific/technical skills:

- You are able to recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and have the capacity to consult and negotiate according to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols in the community you work in. You know about and understand the historical and contemporary issues that impact on both cultures.
