Due to internal promotion, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join a professional team of investigative officers where you will deliver a first-class Local Laws service that is industry-leading and highly responsive to community needs. About the role
City of Boroondara is a leader in the Local Government sector and one of the nation’s most liveable municipal councils. The Local Laws team is situated in Council’s Civic Services Department and our purpose is to serve the community by protecting the health, safety, amenity and assets of the city. Our department is a hive of activity with the highest customer interface in Council and no two days will be the same.
Reporting to the Team Leader Compliance, key responsibilities include:
Respond to reported breaches of the Amenity Local Law and the Environment Protection Act to achieve compliance through education and enforcement.
Undertake lawful investigation and collect evidence, manage your case volume and resolve breaches in line with team work practices and community expectations.
Primary investigations cover unsightly properties, illegally dumped rubbish and occupation of Council land, as well as others.
Support the Animal Management Team for park patrols and animal collections as required.
Gain exposure to multiple facets of the Civic Services department and our Urban Living Directorate - we have a large and diverse service behind you to support any challenge you may face.
Liaise with external stakeholders including Victoria Police, Magistrates Court and Council Prosecutors
Hours are allocated over a 4-week roster and rotating weekend work is required once every 4 weeks. A fully maintained vehicle is provided as a ‘tool of trade’ to perform necessary duties and commute to and from work.
About you

A “can-do” attitude that is ready to tackle a challenging and fulfilling role as part of a wider team.
Demonstrated experience in customer service positions within a complex regulatory environment or other fast-pace, dynamic work environments. People with strong retail and hospitality backgrounds transition very successfully into this role.
Excellent advocacy skills with the ability to negotiate and resolve problems with empathy and respect.
Physically capable to walk long distances and handle animals.
Completion of an industry course in in animal management, enforcement, local laws, justice or similar (desired but not essential).
