What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably qualified and highly motivated individuals wishing to be considered for Policy and Project Support Officer roles within the Counter Terrorism and Special Investigations Command (CTSI) Counter Terrorism Strategy and Coordination (CTSC) team.
The CTSI Command supports the AFP as a key member of the Australian law enforcement and national security community by leading policing efforts to keep Australians and Australian interests’ safe.
CTSI works to prevent terrorist activity domestically and internationally, through coordination and collaborative working arrangements between governments, private industry, members of the community and international partners. This is conducted through:
The detection and disruption of terrorist acts;
Identification and management of individuals, including high risk offenders;
Joint investigations through co-location with state and territory police and federal agencies;
Community engagement;
Investigation of terrorism financing;
Contribution to legislative reform and frameworks;
Contribution to activities to deliver a nationally consistent approach to countering violent extremism; and
The enhancement of global capabilities to disrupt terrorist activities through engagement with foreign law enforcement agencies to build capacity, share intelligence and to collect, investigate, analyse evidence.
CTSC is a professional/unsworn policy and operational support team that delivers strategic outputs and provides advice to the Executive and teams within the Command. This includes working with the Office of Assistant Commissioner CTSI, CT Enduring Risk Investigations, CT Investigations East and CT Investigations West & International, whilst also working collaboratively with the Special Investigations Strategy and Coordination team to ensure consistency of business delivery across the CTSI Command.
What will you do?
CTSC team members work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and require the capacity to think strategically, identify opportunities and prioritise efforts. A proactive and pragmatic attitude, high-level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative are necessities. The suitable applicants will be able to manage risk and work effectively under pressure in a changing environment to deliver high quality advice and outcomes.
Senior Team members are responsible for contributing to team outcomes through:
Researching, analysing and formulating positions on existing and emerging National Security and Counter Terrorism policy issues;
Preparation and coordination of CTSI Command operational reports, advice and policy responses for Ministerial Forums involving Legislative Reform, Senate Committees, Cabinet Committees, Ministerial Offices and agencies/departments;
Providing and coordinating advice to AFP Executive and management on key policy and management issues to support AFP attendance at national and inter-agency meetings, and presentations;
Contributing to Whole of Government and interagency work in the Counter Terrorism context;
Collaborating across the AFP and external stakeholders on complex policy and significant law enforcement issues to provide CTSI perspective;
Undertaking project and research work to support the CTSI Command;
Coordinating responses to media and FOI enquiries; and
Contributing to the development of fellow team members in a guiding, mentoring and advisory ro
