Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Policy Officer on Non-ongoing 12 months with potential extension
**Position Overview**
EL1 Policy Officers operate under broad direction to develop and implement complex policies, which are aligned to Government and Department strategic priorities. They anticipate and identify policy issues, undertake research, analysis and modelling, and consult with stakeholders to develop and implement policies and programs. EL1 Policy Officers design criteria to monitor and evaluate policy effectiveness for the Department. They are also responsible for identifying and mitigating risks to the development and implementation of effective policy.
Policy Officers at this level undertake complex research and analysis in specialty areas to provide evidence-based recommendations. They prepare highly complex correspondence and documentation and maintain accurate records of discussions and decisions. They also develop and implement processes, procedures and tools that support the delivery of high quality policy advice and provide advice on highly complex and sensitive policy matters.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including ability to draft a range of documentation
- Research and analysis skills
- Ability to identify, analyse and synthesise data from a variety of sources
- Records and information management skills, including use of Departmental systems
- Time management skills to achieve allocated tasks
- Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills to identify trends impacting policy development
- Stakeholder engagement skills to achieve policy outcomes that align with Departmental objectives
- Project management skills to contribute to efficient policy development
- Change management skills in the policy development area
**Knowledge**
- Relevant legislation, regulations, policy and frameworks
- Relevant Departmental roles and functions, including operating models, business processes and standard operating procedures
- Policy lifecycle including relevant methodologies
- Government and Departmental priorities and their impacts on policy development
- Government and department decision-making processes
- Understanding of policy priorities and agendas from government, industry, community and agency perspectives
- Strong awareness of external factors which may influence departmental or whole of government strategic priorities and objectives
- Performance management standards
- Quality assurance and quality control frameworks
