**Introduction**:
Community Services Team Play Helper (Casual)

Our Community Services team are seeking the support of a casual Play Helper. This is a new role that aims to address barriers to participation for vulnerable parents or carers with pre-school aged children not accessing care or preschool. The play helper’s role will be to facilitate child-related play activities and provide support and activities for children while parents participate in activities and discussions.

**Who we need**:
Experience in children related services or activities (relevant qualification would be desirable, but not essential)
Ability to guide children’s behavior in a positive way, treating them all equitably
Satisfactory criminal history check (National Police Certificate), Working with Children Check & pre-employment functional assessment
Full COVID vaccination with 1 booster
Sound written and verbal communication skills in order to interact with children and families in a warm, friendly and respectful manner
Highly organised with ability to prioritise and problem solve
Trustworthy and reliable with an ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality

Other information

Casual commitment, likely 3 hours per week over 8 weeks per school term. May be additional/one-off programs.
Varied times & days each term to coincide with the parent or carer program
Located at SPYCC & Activity Hub in Sanctuary Point
Parents or Carers will remain on site and maintain responsibility for children

**Responsibilities**:
The Play Helper will work closely with our Community Program Workers whilst carrying out the following responsibilities:
Prepare play and learning materials and set up the children's environment
Plan and provide a range of activities and experiences designed to promote physical, social, emotional and intellectual development for each child
Supervise the activities of the children, making sure of their physical safety, while ensuring that parents are aware that the responsibility of the child remains with them at all times.
Maintain a clean and appealing environment for children
Clean-up & debrief, with associated documentation and administration tasks

Due to the inherent requirements of the role, you will be required to hold a current drivers licence, undertake a NSW Working with Children Check, National Criminal History Record Check and a pre-employment functional assessment review.
