North Sydney, Australia Shift Full time

**Company Description**:
At Shift, we’re business specialists dedicated to helping Australian SMEs take control of their cashflow, streamline trade terms and choose the right financial products.

We believe Australian businesses are the driving force behind our economy and the heart of our community. That’s why our business expertise, relationship focus, and market-leading technology is at the core of everything we do.

Our unique approach and collaborative culture means you can build your career with support. You’ll be joining a diverse team of over 250 people who are always looking to deliver better outcomes for the 25,000+ Australian businesses we’ve served (and counting)

We're launching a new business venture within an established company, backed by big ideas and strong support. The product we’re building believes that raw banking data offers everything needed to understand a business, and when structured and enriched correctly, it becomes a powerful asset for many B2B groups. As the Founding Technical Lead, you will play a critical role in shaping both the systems we build and the way we work. This is a hands-on leadership role in a delivery-focused environment where you’ll be responsible for designing and implementing core systems, making foundational technical decisions, and laying down high standards for future engineers.

You will work on a largely greenfield project, giving you a unique opportunity to influence architecture, tooling, and workflows. You'll work closely with key business and product stakeholders to deliver real value quickly, while ensuring scalability and long-term growth.

**What you’ll do**:

- Migrate (and/or rebuild) the existing product stack and move it outside of its current infrastructure.
- Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, tools, and frameworks that best meet business objectives.
- Contribute to the product roadmap and assist in launching lightweight POCs to learn alongside customers.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies (including AI) and assess their potential impact on the business.
- Lead the technical design and architecture of software systems, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and security.
- Ensure the technical feasibility of future product roadmap initiatives and contribute to the planning process.
- Drive the overall technical direction and vision for the business.

**Qualifications**:
**What you’ll have**:

- Proven ability to build, break, and improve systems, with a hands-on leadership approach.
- Experience with C# (.Net), Python, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript (ReactJS).
- Strong experience working with cross-functional teams and leading development projects from start to finish.
- Expertise in designing and implementing event-driven, microservice architecture.
- Proven track record of leading engineering teams and delivering complex projects.
- Solid understanding of full-stack technology and microservice architecture in a Microsoft environment.
- Experience working closely with data science teams.
- Hands-on experience working with systems that stream real-time data, especially when data is incomplete or improving.
- A balanced approach to quality, speed, and constraints in delivering products.
- Bonus points for experience with transaction banking data or fintech products.

**Additional Information**:
**Key benefits**:

- Collaborative teams - a flat structure means everyone can learn from colleagues and senior leaders around the business.
- Be involved - come together with all of your colleagues every 100 days to share the product and technology roadmap and business strategy.
- Flexible working environment - we’re headquartered in North Sydney with state-based workplaces and offer a flexible work policy.
- Family support - industry leading 26 weeks paid parental leave.
- Varied workspaces - our office enables areas for collaboration, brainstorming and socialising as well as focus zones.
