Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Technical Lead located in Sydney, NSW. The Technical Lead will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of projects, leading the development team, and ensuring the quality of code and architecture. Day-to-day tasks include developing and implementing technical strategies, managing technical resources, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and troubleshooting technical issues. The Technical Lead will also be responsible for mentoring junior developers and staying updated with industry trends and technologies.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead technical design and architecture decisions for web and middleware applications.
• Ensure code quality, maintainability, and scalability across the frontend, backend, and infrastructure.
• Conduct in-depth code reviews and enforce coding best practices.
• Drive adoption of modern development practices including automated testing, CI/CD, secure coding, and AI-assisted development workflows (including generative tools for code-generation, test generation and prompt engineering).
• Mentor and guide developers to improve technical capability and delivery standards, with emphasis on upskilling in LLM usage, agentic design patterns, and safe AI practices.
• Establish and maintain technical documentation for systems and processes, with emphasis on upskilling in LLM usage, agentic design patterns, and safe AI practices.
• Champion security, performance, and reliability in all technical work.

Supporting Responsibilities

• Evaluate and recommend modern tools, frameworks, and practices to improve development efficiency, including LLM toolchains, observability stacks, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Support troubleshooting of production issues and lead root cause analysis for critical incidents.
• Optimise infrastructure and deployments on cloud platforms to achieve performance and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with product and operations teams to ensure technical solutions align with business requirements.
• Establish strong knowledge-transfer practices and documented handovers to ensure smooth collaboration with offshore development partners.

Skills & Experience

• Technical Leadership
  : Proven experience in leading development teams or acting as a senior engineer with strong mentoring capabilities.
• Frontend
  : Advanced knowledge of
  
  and modern component/state management practices. Familiarity with integrating LLMs into frontend experiences and building agent-enabled UI patterns is a plus
• Backend
  : Strong expertise in
  
  , REST API design, and middleware services.
• Cloud & Infrastructure
  : Hands-on experience with
  AWS services
  (Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, etc.) and deployment pipelines. Good IaC skills (Terraform, AWS CDK), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS) are a bonus.
• Financial Lending awareness:
  credit decisioning pipelines, bureau & alternative data integration, and regulatory controls (responsible lending, KYC/AML); familiar with key risk and performance metrics (approval rate, delinquency).
• Low Code & Salesforce
  : some familiarity with salesforce, and the ability to integrate with low code systems is a bonus
• Security
  : Understanding of secure coding, data privacy, and fintech-grade resilience. Practical experience with threat modelling, SAST/DAST, SCA (e.g., Snyk, Dependabot), secrets management (Vault or AWS Secrets Manager) and regulatory controls for fintech is required.
• Compliance
  : Knowledge of Australian regulatory expectations (e.g., responsible lending principles, ASIC/APRA considerations where relevant), data privacy (Privacy Act/GDPR comparables), AML/KYC obligations, and the need to maintain auditable decision logs
• Quality & Testing
  : Solid background in automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and release governance. Familiarity with automated test generation, model evaluation, and validating outputs from LLMs should be included where AI features are used.
• Soft Skills
  : Excellent communication, ability to collaborate across teams, strong problem-solving mindset.
