Open Arms - Veterans & Families Counselling (Open Arms) has provided veteran mental health support for more than 40 years. Open Arms (formerly Vietnam Veterans’ Counselling Service) was founded by Vietnam Veterans and is a nationally accredited mental health service that provides 24-hour free and confidential mental health support.

The Practice Manager is responsible for supervising the daily activities of the front of house for clients accessing services from Open Arms Veterans and Families Counselling. In addition, they provide operational and administrative support to the Director and attend to national priorities as needed.

The Practice Manager may work across multiple functions and service delivery streams. They will supervise Assistant Practice Managers, Practice Officers and Service Support Officers including task allocation and monitoring of performance for the efficient execution of reception and administrative duties associated with running the multidisciplinary mental health service.

This role is an integral leadership position within a multidisciplinary team, providing state-wide services across multiple sites. This role supports the Director, team members and clients and interacts with various departmental and external stakeholders and is responsible for the effective execution of functions that support the business.

**Duties**
- Coordinate operational and administrative support of the region across multiple Open Arms centres, including the line management of geographically dispersed administration staff.
- As part of the regional leadership team, provide support in key strategic areas, business planning and reporting. Provide executive assistance to the Director including the drafting of business cases, action briefs, responses to national office and ministerial requests.
- Facilitate human resource requirements for the region’s support team. Build capacity within the support team through learning and development, resource and team structure development. Support the Director in regional recruitment activities as required.
- Support the region’s financial requirements in line with the PGPA Act and Departmental policies, including budget development and maintenance, accruals, financial delegation and approvals and acquisitions management.
- Embed quality improvement principles in practice to align regional processes and operational functions with national policy and standard operating procedures.
- Develop, maintain and collaborate with stakeholders, especially those involved in service consultation processes and undertake other tasks as required to support the efficient delivery of Open Arms services in the region as directed by the Director.

**Eligibility**
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.

**Desirable Qualifications**
- Certificate IV equivalent qualification in office, practice and/or business management or a similar field.
- Mental Health First Aid Certificate

**Notes**

Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to18 months.

A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
