**Assistant Parliamentary Counsel (legal officer grade IV)**
- ** Classification grade and salary**: Legal office grade IV $139,862-$142,554 (plus employer’s contribution to superannuation & annual leave loading)

This role contributes to legislative drafting programs through the investigation and analysis of legislative proposals to produce high quality, accurate and unambiguous legislation within strict deadlines associated with parliamentary and other legislative processes and the time frames required by the Parliamentary Counsel.
**Key accountabilities**
- With the guidance of senior drafters, undertake drafting projects of moderate complexity (including preparing drafts of Bills, subordinate legislation and environmental planning instruments).
- Under supervision, advise on the legality of proposed subordinate legislation and other instruments, including advice on the feasibility of legislative proposals and interpretation of legislation to assist clients in their requirements for legislation.
- Undertake general research required by other officers.
- Examine and comment on the drafts prepared within the Office as part of the Office’s quality control process.
- Assist with any office or drafting projects as required by the Parliamentary Counsel.

- Please describe a time when you had to draft a legal instrument or document. How did you know where to start and whether you were on the right track in delivering the final draft?
- Please describe a time when you disagreed with another person's view. What approaches did you take to resolve the issue and what was the outcome?
Applicants should read the role description and consider the key accountabilities, focus capabilities and essential requirements when preparing their resume and cover letter.
The selection process will include undertaking assessments to assist in determining your suitability for the role. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend for an interview and undertake at least one other capability assessment exercise. _Please note, interviews will be held in the week commencing 9 June 2025._
