As the Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Business Partner you will support the Vice President (VP) General Manager in leading and facilitating the effective development and implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) processes and systems. With the aim of continually improving our culture and health, safety, and environmental performance. It is Ultra Maritime Australia’s (Ultra) objective to achieve and maintain ISO:45001 and ISO:14001 certifications, this is a key output of the role.

The position will provide health, safety and environmental expertise and leadership, guidance, mentoring and direction to line managers, supervisors and health and safety representatives across the organisation. You will be required to promote and encourage the culture of working safely and setting a positive example for all other personnel.

The role will also be responsible for ensuring governance processes are implemented to assist in ensuring the HSE legal and business requirements are being met whilst improving the operations safety performance.

What you will be doing....
- Maintaining HSE systems to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive HSE system and program to continually improve Ultras performance.
- Driving the development and implementation of HSE strategy to contribute to Ultra meeting its business objectives.
- Promoting and encouraging the culture of working safely and setting a positive example for all other personnel.
- Develops and monitors the effective implementation of appropriate Safety and Environment System procedures and provide for their updating in line with changes in Legislation and Company Directives.
- Monitoring and reporting HSE performance to senior leadership team and global requirements.
- Manage the HSE aspects of Lucidity data base to ensure accurate data is captured and accountability and responsibility is disseminated throughout the organisation.
- Undertake risk and opportunity assessments and maintain HSE risk management framework.
- Reviewing current practices and update work instructions
- Reviewing incident reports, participating in investigations, and developing lessons learnt briefs.
- Contributing to all stages of the project lifecycle in respect to the HSE planning, management, and compliance.
- Maintaining up to date knowledge of internal and external standards, legislation and other HSE improvements.
- Promoting the HSE Management System and training staff in its content and implementation.
- Coordinating and participating in internal and external HSE audits.
- Undertaking internal audits.
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders within the company and providing guidance, advice, and mentoring.
- Supporting management to ensure compliance with external client HSE requirements.
- Providing regular reports for the management team and global requirements.
- Design training material, conduct and coordination of training courses relative to HSE.
- Embed health and wellbeing with a focus on fitness for work and psychosocial hazards.

Do you have...
- A tertiary qualification in Health and Safety or related field essential.
- A tertiary qualification in environmental or related field highly regarded.
- Knowledge and understanding of IS0 45001 Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) management system and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Working knowledge of relevant WHS (Work Health and Safety) and environmental Legislation and regulations.
- Experienced in implementation/delivery of compliant HSE Management systems.
- Lead Auditor qualifications and Cert IV in Workplace Assessor & Trainer highly desirable.
- Experience and qualification in Internal Auditing highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to compile detailed written reports.
- Membership of the AIHS as a signatory to its code of ethics, will be highly regarded.
- Certification as an OHS practitioner/professional will be highly regarded.

Have you...
- Minimum of 5 + years in a similar role is essential.
- Experience within a HSE role in the defence domain and/or within an engineering industry is desirable.
- Certification as an OHS practitioner/professional will be highly regarded.
