**About Nunkuwarrin Yunti**:
Nunkuwarrin Yunti, the foremost Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in Adelaide aims to promote and deliver improvement in the health and wellbeing of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families in the greater metropolitan areas of Adelaide and regional areas to advance their social, cultural and economic status. The Organisation places a strong focus on a client centred approach to the delivery of services and a collaborative working culture to achieve the best possible outcomes for clients.

Nunkuwarrin Yunti is a Child Safe Organisation.

The Women Children and Family Health aims to support safe nurturing environments for pregnant women, infants and children, increase uptake and utilisation of services with an emphasis on early intervention and prevention, provide streamlined coordinated care and positive experiences for clients to encourage continued engagement with services. The Strengthening Early Years Project builds on the strengths and protective factors inherent in Aboriginal families and communities. It is a family-led and co-designed group for women, children and their families during pregnancy and the early years.

**About the Role**:
The primary role of the Aboriginal Family and Cultural Mentor is to:

- Ensure family voices are being heard and reflected in the co-design and ongoing development of the family-led Strengthening Early Years group
- Provide safe spaces for children to play and for families to heal, including Elder participation from a strengths-based approach
- Embed traditional and contemporary cultural parenting practices to strengthen identity and culture, and link families with support to explore their heritage
- Support pregnant women and parents/caregivers of Aboriginal children 0-2 years to access support and services as they need for Nunkuwarrin Yunti and external services
- Build trusting relationships, empowerment, and self-determination for families
- Support families to build social connections, access formal and informal supports
- Develop and maintain a strong network with local community groups and service providers
- Support administrative tasks including Project and client documentation in line with privacy and confidentiality requirements

**Desired Skills and Experience**:
**Selection Criteria**:
**Essential**:

- An appropriate vocational and/or tertiary qualification in health sciences, health promotion, counselling, community services or similar disciplines to at least the equivalent of Certificate IV in Primary Health Care (Community care) and/or Community/social health services; **and/or **A minimum of two (2) years vocational, experience attained through previous appointments, services and/or study at an equivalent level and expertise to undertake the range of activities required.
- Sound knowledge of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander families and an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
- Well established links and relationships with community recognised as a knowledge holder
- Demonstrated experience in maternal, child and/or family health utilising a trauma informed approach
- Ability to deal with people with high and complex needs and the ability to deal with conflict constructively.
- Ability to liaise, network and negotiate with a range of human service organisations and government agencies.
- Ability to participate in the development and coordination of care plans.
- Demonstrated experience in managing a diverse range of tasks and competing priorities, working with mínimal supervision and working as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake various health work activities requiring a high level of knowledge and skills, including quality improvement activities.
- Experience in the use of computer software, especially Patient Information Recall Systems (e.g. Communicare, Medical Director) and other databases
- Ability to use professional judgement to prioritise care and organise workloads.

**Desirable**:

- Experience in group facilitation as part of a therapeutic relationship including use of deep listening (Dadirri)
- Qualification in or sound knowledge of narrative therapy approaches
- Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or Primary Health Care setting.
- Experience in contributing to Project activities and outputs
