**About us**

For The Record (FTR) exists to support making audio recordings the primary record of courts
worldwide through enabling high quality recording of in-person and remote court proceedings.
Our recording solution is currently installed in tens of thousands of courtrooms spanning over 60
countries. Now we look to our software as a service offering that gives courts the ability to
stream in real-time from courtrooms to build upon this success.

FTR is a global organisation based in the United States. Our design and development teams
are located in Brisbane, Australia.

**About the role**

You will be a key member of our small design team which is responsible for every stage of
design for our primary court audio and transcription product.

In the early stages of our product backlog the design team leads our research efforts. This will
require you to be comfortable with data and web analytics, workshopping with customers,
analysing their processes and other research techniques.

You will be responsible for taking features from the idea stage through to wireframing and then
into higher fidelity designs and interactive prototypes. We look beyond just visual design, we
design a fully functional system across multiple user roles. We practise inclusive design and our
design team is expected to lead on accessibility.

At all stages of the process we collaborate with our development team and our stakeholders to
receive feedback and iterate. During the development process you will be expected to be an
advocate for product quality and a staunch defender of your design vision, you will work with
developers to understand trade offs and continue to iterate on the design as we build.

**About you**

More than any amount of experience or skill with a particular tool the key things you will need to
succeed at FTR is the ability to take initiative, set direction, plan your work and follow through
on it. You will want to take responsibility for the product you are working on and have a desire to
make a great experience for our customers.

To succeed in our design team you will need a great deal of flexibility. As we are a small team
we don't have rigid roles and high levels of specialisation. You will pride yourself on your diverse
skillset; from written skills to your visual sense, and from brand identity to product design.

You will understand that our success is dependent on everyone in the team. This feeds into a
number of things: you'll need to be able to present and explain ideas to your colleagues while
also realising that not every proposal made will be adopted, be able to give and receive
feedback on design work, and treat everyone in a kind and thoughtful way. Our design team
needs the communication skills and sensitivity to work alongside all levels of our organisation,
from the developers to the CEO and external customers, from a clerk in a small provincial court
to a high court judge.
