**Who we are**
**The People, Strategy and Safety Branch** is the centre of capability identification, acquisition, mobilisation and development in the department and supports the department to achieve its complex agenda through a highly capable, diverse and inclusive workforce. We provide valuable support and guidance to business areas through our closely connected sections: Health, Safety and Welfare Strategy and Systems; Health, Safety and Welfare Operations; Establishments and HR Reporting; Culture, Diversity, and Inclusion; Talent, Leadership and Capability; Workforce Strategy, Planning and Design.

There are two WHS Sections within the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). The **WHS Enterprise section** leads the overall WHS strategy and management of the department’s enterprise safety management system and the **WHS National Operations section** leads the engagement and practical implementation of the department’s safety management system with our organisational stakeholders, including the provision and support on WHS matters. This role resides within the WHS Enterprise team and reports directly to an Assistant Director within the WHS Enterprise section.

**The Job**
- undertaking complex research and analysis to inform and support the department’s safety management system, including the development of procedures and supporting materials,
- undertaking and/or managing procurement of specialist WHS services,
- preparing high-quality briefs, papers and guidance on relevant work health and safety matters, including papers for consideration by the WHS leadership team,
- liaising with stakeholders and managing key stakeholder relationships,
- contributing to the section’s planning and prioritisation including by contributing ideas on potential new initiatives to drive continual improvement,
- supporting the Assistant Directors, Director and Senior Executive to contribute to the success of the Sections, Branch and broader department,
- evaluating activities and processes for compliance with work health and safety legislation, policies and procedures,
- resolving problems using professional expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action and implications for work health and safety activities.

**What are we looking for**
**knowledge and experience**
- Highly competent in the preparation of high-quality briefs, papers and guidance on relevant work health and safety matters.
- Knowledge and understanding of safety management systems, including their development and implementation in a large organisation with a diverse hazard profile.
- At least three to five years’ experience working in a similar WHS policy, coordinator or advisory role.
