Job Summary

Position Context

This position is in the Business Technology Services (BTS) branch, which is responsible for the delivery and support of Information Technology services within South East Water (SEW). BTS is part of the Finance and Technology (F&T) executive group and is managed by the Chief Information Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the implementation of enterprise data governance framework, tools and processes and contribute to the project delivering advanced data and analytics for a leading water utility. The Data Governance Analyst position resides in the Information Management Team in the BTS branch and reports to the Information & Analytics Team Leader. This position will work across a range of business, technology, and project stakeholders to progress the implementation of data governance framework, tools, and processes in a modern technology environment. This will be achieved through providing data management expertise to help effectively manage data for efficiency, compliance and protect the data of our customers. This role will also be an integral part of the SEW Data and Analytics Platform (SDAP) project and get exposure to tools and technologies being introduced to provide SEW’s advanced analytics environment.

Job Purpose and Scope

**This role is responsible for**:

- Partnering with Business and Project stakeholders to operationalise data policies, standards, guidelines, implement and maintain data governance tools
- Support training, education, and awareness programs to improve our data governance capabilities
- Support business transition and helping to establish change and be a SME for Data Governance processes, frameworks, and standards
- Support the Data and Analytics team to manage Data Governance in the enterprise and improve data governance, data quality and master data practices

- Partner with data stewards to
- drive the adoption of our data lifecycle, seek continuous feedback to drive improvements in our messaging and training
- define metadata, and partner with engineers to implement data management technology

**The Data Governance Analyst will**:
- Contribute to identifying, defining and maintaining Data Governance workflows. Partnering with Data Stewards to identify, define and maintain data definitions and corresponding metadata across business functions and data domains.
- Play an active role in the SDAP project including facilitating data governance to support delivery of the 3 use cases. This role will also get exposure to new technologies such as Azure, Purview, Data Lakes, Operational Data Stores and data ingestion and orchestration processes to support advanced analytics.
- Support the implementation of standards, processes and practices required to meet data privacy requirements
- Have data management experience including Data Analysis, Modelling, Metadata Management and reporting
- Identify process improvement and automation opportunities, recommending controls and standards to improve quality of data

This position requires someone with a customer value driven approach and well-developed stakeholder engagement and understanding of data governance.

Overall impact

This role has significant impact (and shared responsibility) in furthering data governance across the entire organisation. Decisions made can affect staff from multiple Groups and will impact on the longer-term use of data platforms and user experience.

Minimum level of educational qualifications required for the role:
Bachelor Degree in Information Technology or relevant equivalent. Experience and Knowledge:

- Familiarity with Enterprise Information Architecture principles and data management techniques would be preferable
- Proficiency with MS Office productivity tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. and MS Power BI
- An understanding of database technologies particularly Azure, SQL Server and OracleAn understanding of Data Governance principles and data information security practicesExperience with Atlassian JIRA and ConfluenceTrack record in successful stakeholder management and business engagementDemonstrated experience working in an Agile project delivery model environment
