About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Director and Senior Management the Principal Policy Officer coordinates and undertakes extensive policy development and research activities on initiatives and issues affecting the future direction of early childhood education, school education and tertiary education in Queensland.
**Responsibilities include**:
- Working and leading collaboratively from within a high-performing team, including contributing to a positive team culture
- Development of clear written materials about complex issues, including but not limited to:
- Cabinet submissions and associated briefing materials
- Negotiation frameworks relating to funding and/or policy matters
- Briefs and other materials to support senior executives' and the Minister's attendance at intergovernmental meetings
- Briefing senior executives verbally and in writing, with an appropriate level of detail
- Understanding and briefing on Commonwealth legislation, including implications, mitigations and responses
- Liaising with other areas of the Department, other departments, and other states and territories to work through complex policy and funding issues
- Proactive monitoring and escalation of issues and trends relevant to school funding and intergovernmental relations
- Problem solving and policy development both independently and as part of a team
