The opportunity

The Strategy Manager is responsible for leading the Strategy team within QBE’s Australia Pacific division (AUSPAC) to help QBE answer its most important strategic questions, on its journey to becoming a stronger, simpler and more customer focused insurer. This role will take ownership for leading strategy projects and driving analysis and insight, as well as coaching more junior team members and stakeholders from across the business in core strategy skills - including analysis and problem solving, strategic thinking, influencing and communication.

Key responsibilities of this role are to:

- Scope strategic projects, establish and manage workplans, prioritise activities and deliver project outcomes, track progress, and refine strategic assumptions and priorities
- Bring the ‘voice of the customer’ into strategy by leveraging internal and external customer insights and analysis, and leveraging relationships with the business
- Build trusted relationships with business stakeholders, which ensure the team’s analysis and recommendations are aligned with the needs of project sponsors and are owned and implemented by the business
- Lead and contribute to strategy presentations; the Strategy team has high visibility within the AUSPAC business and is often called upon to present to executive leadership teams and other senior forums
- Lead and coach team members to conduct sophisticated quantitative analysis, and solve more ambiguous / qualitative problems using appropriate frameworks and approaches
- Structure and facilitate workshops and meetings at the working group level to engage stakeholders, develop solutions and build momentum for change
- Provide on-the-job coaching and development to team members, graduates on rotation and virtual team members in core strategy skills, business acumen and communication
- The role reports to the General Manager, Strategy & Business Architecture, and is part of the Strategy & Transformation function within AUSPAC.
- The role directly manages 2 Strategy Analysts.

Your story so far
- A strong strategy toolkit including quantitative and qualitative analysis, strategic communication and report writing, business case development and project management
- People leadership including the ability to motivate and guide a team, set priorities, provide coaching and mentoring to junior staff and take ownership for team culture and wellbeing
- Stakeholder management including the ability to influence others to gain support and generate enthusiasm for the team’s outputs, and act as an effective change agent within the business
- Flexible mindset, able to operate in ambiguous situations, respond to changing priorities and stay focused and positive under constrained timelines
- Exceptional communication both verbal and written, able to present with confidence to senior stakeholders, articulate findings and insights in a succinct manner in senior level discussions
- You will have a proven track record in a strategy function, either in-house or with a top tier strategy consulting firm.
- Financial Services experience is essential, Insurance industry experience is preferred.
