Role Purpose
The Program Manager is a cross-program delivery lead role and is responsible for driving coordination, alignment, and integration across all program streams to ensure successful delivery of program outcomes. This role is in service of both the streams and of the overall program management.
This role focuses on facilitating collaboration, managing interdependencies, and embedding agile practices to enable adaptability and efficiency. The Program Manager will act as a coach and leader across the program, empowering teams, optimizing delivery, and supporting program governance.
This role will be responsible for the people leadership (functional line management) of the stream project managers and recruitment of PMs for streams will be done in collaboration with the stream lead.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination and Alignment- Work with streams to optimize stream plans and develop the integrated program plan- Facilitate cross-stream planning, ensuring alignment with overall program goals and priorities.- Manage interdependencies between streams, identifying and addressing risks and bottlenecks proactively.- Maintain oversight of program progress, consolidating updates and reporting to senior stakeholders.
Leadership and Coaching- Coach teams to adopt consistent delivery frameworks and agile practices.- Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability across the program.- Provide guidance and support to teams, empowering them to deliver effectively while addressing challenges as they arise.
Agile Facilitation and Optimization- Facilitate cross-program agile ceremonies such as Scrum of Scrums, program increment planning, and retrospectives.- Promote adaptive planning, prioritization, and continuous improvement to maintain program agility.
Stakeholder Engagement- Support stream leads in their engagement with senior stakeholders to ensure alignment and clear communication.- Partner with the Head of Transformation to manage stakeholder relationships, ensuring program priorities are well understood.
Program Governance and Reporting- Develop and maintain program-level documentation, including RAID logs, milestones, and dashboards.- Ensure timely and accurate reporting on program health, progress, and risks to senior leaders.- Contribute to the refinement of decision-making frameworks and governance practices.
Key Skills and Experience
Essential- Proven experience in program management within complex, multi-stream environments.- Strong leadership and coaching skills, with a track record of driving team alignment and collaboration.- Mindset that understands and enables effectiveness of streams and overall program- Deep understanding of agile frameworks and principles, with the ability to embed these practices at scale.- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing senior leaders.- Ability to manage competing priorities, resolve interdependencies, and maintain focus on program outcomes.- Design thinking experience and approach
Desirable- Experience in transformation programs or organizational change initiatives.- Familiarity with agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms.- Skills in program governance and reporting, including risk management and interdependency mapping.
