The Mine Safety Inspectorate, Central Assessment Unit at the NSW Resources Regulator (part of the Mining, Exploration & Geoscience group) are looking for an Inspector of Mines (Electrical) to join the team.

**About the role**:
As Inspector of Mines (Electrical) you will be undertaking statutory and administrative responsibilities to improve the health and safety performance at mines.

**You’ll do this by**:

- Assessing, monitoring, and reviewing individual mine operator’s health and safety management systems to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Triaging incidents from mining sectors (metals and petroleum), small mines, coal surface and underground.
- Assessing incident outcomes, reviewing site investigations, evaluating identified causal factors, and making recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Consulting with mine operators to ensure corrective actions are addressed in a timely manner and assisting these operators in scheduling improvement actions.
- Carrying out enforcement activities to ensure mine operations comply with health and safety legislation.
- Carrying out announced and unannounced inspections and assessment activities at mine sites, including inspections on weekends and back shifts.

**You’ll need to**:

- Have proven experience at an engineering level in mining including the ability to exercise and hold the key statutory functions an Electrical Engineer, Electrical Engineering Manager as specified in the NSW Work Health and Safety (Mines & Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2022 Schedule 10, Part 2 or 3.
- Be able to work on weekends and backshifts and respond to incidents out of normal business hours on a rostered basis.
- Hold and maintain a current Class C driver licence.
- Have excellent communication and people skills as you’ll need to gain the confidence of, negotiate with and influence mine operators who may have a limited understanding of their legal obligations, or who may be concerned at the possible implications of compliance action.
- Have excellent written communication skills as you’ll be preparing assessment, inspection, and investigation reports, obtaining, and preparing evidence for legal proceedings and issuing compliance, improvement, and prohibition notices.

**Things to know about the role**:

- To be appointed you must possess and maintain the qualifications to be appointed as an inspector under section 18(2)(a) of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2013, and in accordance with the Resources Regulator policy on qualifications of mine safety inspectors.
- Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory and a condition of engagement.
