**Position Summary**:
A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated experienced Pastoral Practitioner with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to be able to:
- Assess, plan and provide spiritual and emotional support and pastoral counselling to patients, families, and significant others
- Ensure that patient’s religious needs are addressed with particular attention to sacramental needs, referring to other spiritual/religious representatives when and where appropriate
- Document pastoral/spiritual care, maintain records and statistics
- Work effectively with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure compassionate, patient centred care
- Advocate for vulnerable people
- Provide education and information to staff to assist them in providing care that is culturally and spiritually appropriate
- Accompany family and significant others through hospital procedures following the death of a patient.
- Provide pastoral care and support to staff
- Provide expertise in a specialised area of Pastoral Care, such as Mental Health, Heart/Lung, Cancer Care
- Mentor Pastoral Education students and junior Pastoral Care staff
- Create and lead liturgy, e.g., Memorial Services, Feast Day Celebrations, Funeral Services
- Participate in the development and promotion of best practice in pastoral/spiritual care
The team works on rostered shifts 8.30-17.00, 11.30-20.00 and weekend shifts 10.00-18.00
The vacancy is open to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens who hold a valid New Zealand passport, Australian permanent residents and those non-residents deemed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to be eligible to work in Australia only.

**Selection Criteria**:
- Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
- Emotional and Spiritual maturity including an ability to appreciate differing value systems, beliefs and practices
- A graduate qualification in religious studies, theology, or psychology/counselling and at least two 400 hour Units of Clinical Pastoral Education.
- Ability to assess, develop, document and administer a patient centred spiritual care plan
- Demonstrated capacity for effective teamwork with the ability to motivate self and others
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and relationship building capabilities, including oral and written communication skills.

- Ability to prepare and lead liturgy/worship
