**The Opportunity**
The Pacific Aviation Section is seeking an energetic and motivated Assistant Director to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment developing Pacific aviation policy and implementing key initiatives that progress Australia’s Pacific engagement objectives. The Pacific Aviation Section supports economic recovery and growth opportunities for Pacific aviation partners, as part of Australia’s broader support for economic prosperity in the region.

In this role you will support aviation connectivity between Australia and the region, with a focus on Pacific aviation safety and sustainability initiatives. You will work with commercial airlines who operate key routes through the Pacific Flights Program; with civil aviation regulators; and relevant aviation sector stakeholders to implement aviation safety and sustainability initiatives in the Pacific.

The team engages across the Office of the Pacific and works closely with Australia’s partners and diplomatic missions in the Pacific. You will regularly engage with relevant multilateral organisations and whole of government agencies as required.

Applicants with a background in economics, trade, policy, international development and program management are encouraged to apply. A merit list may be established to fill future vacancies within the Pacific Economic Resilience and Trade Branch.

As an Assistant Director in the section, you exercise a significant degree of independence and achieve outcomes to support senior leadership. You are committed to building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships with your strong interpersonal skills, and experience working with whole-of-government and Pacific stakeholders or transferrable experience.

You have experience in strategic planning, policy and program design, and the development of technical advice. As a natural leader you leverage your experience to lead a small team to deliver quality policy and program management outcomes for the Pacific Aviation Section.

You will be flexible and able to respond to emerging priorities by demonstrating initiative and sound judgement. This role will challenge you to drive collaboration to reaching the strategic vision of the organisation and build your career in diplomacy.

Prior knowledge or understanding of Australia's foreign policy objectives in the Pacific, aviation policy, regulation, logistics or operations is desirable but not essential.

**Application Details**
- your personal details;
- a one page pitch/no more than 750 words or one page upload;
- a maximum four-page CV (uploaded); and
- contact details of two referees (one being your current supervisor).

The requirements of the role are based on the information provided to you as part of the job advertisement, in line with the APS Work Level Standards (WLS).

**Applications close Sunday 23 October at 11:30PM AEDT.**
