The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is seeking energetic and talented people to fill a range of foreign policy, economics, and development-focused roles in the Office of the Pacific (OTP).
Working in OTP offers the chance to contribute to major whole-of-government initiatives, and a diverse range of policy and programs focused on improving outcomes for our Pacific family. OTP is also integral to DFAT’s work on the First Nations approach to foreign policy.
There are a range of positions available, and we are seeking applicants with a variety of skills and experience. Knowledge and experience in the following areas would be highly regarded: foreign and strategic policy, development policy, economics, strategic communications, national security and analyses, infrastructure, program management, or geographic experience. These roles would be particularly well suited to those familiar with the geostrategic environment in our region. Experience living or working in the Pacific, with Pacific communities in Australia, and/or with First Nations communities in Australia would also be highly regarded.
As Assistant Director, Foreign Policy you will develop and implement strategic policy to bolster our partnerships in the Pacific and build a stronger Pacific family in the context of intensifying geostrategic interest. Your experience in foreign policy development and analysis, complex stakeholder engagement and the implementation and evaluation of policies, will help to protect our shared interest in a peaceful, prosperous, and resilient region.
As Assistant Director, Development you will deliver programs and formulate policy to support the implementation of the Australian Government’s Pacific Strategy and international development policy. Working closely with a diverse range of stakeholders and interest groups you will support the design, implementation, evaluation and promotion of development programs and policies that support Pacific priorities, strengthen development outcomes, and build resilience.
As Assistant Director, Economics you will draw on your experience in Australian and international economic policy analysis to contribute to the formulation of international economic, trade and development policies and proposals for international development expenditure supporting our approach to partnering and collaborating with the Pacific region.
This recruitment process will be used to fill current and future vacancies over the coming 18 months.
