Principal Policy and Legislation Officer

You will lead a body of work to identify and develop innovative policy solutions and options for legislative amendment to the definition of 'adult visitable site' in the Public Guardian Act 2014 (Qld) and the Public Guardian Regulation 2014, to provide greater clarity on the scope of adult community visiting by the Office Of The Public Guardian.
The work will require the successful applicant to have, or have the capacity to rapidly acquire, an understanding of key strategic policy areas relevant to the OPG, with a specific focus on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and adult community visiting.
It will also be necessary to have, or have the capacity to rapidly acquire, an understanding of State and Commonwealth legislation and regulations relevant to the functions of OPG. Key responsibilities:
- Develop sound, well-reasoned policy options and recommendations for legislative amendment to the Public Guardian Act 2014 to address policy issues and deliver improved outcomes for Office Of The Public Guardian and its clients
- Research, analyse and provide high-level and timely strategic policy advice to the Public Guardian and delegates on matters relevant to the project, including (but not limited to) high risk visitable sites
- Prepare submissions, briefs, ministerial and departmental correspondence, answers to parliamentary Questions on Notice and other documentation as required
- Use strong communication skills to build, maintain and support internal and external relationships to ensure policy and legislative options are developed collaboratively and stakeholders are consulted on and informed of key issues and information.
