About the Role

Role Overview

The Manager of Data Governance is tasked with organizing and enforcing standards, policies, and guardrails for the entire data lifecycle within the organization. This involves implementing and managing data governance frameworks, policies, and standards. The role serves as a key point of escalation for addressing governance, data quality, and protection issues, while collaborating with business leadership to enhance core data assets. Providing advisory services for both structured and unstructured data governance, the manager guides the organization towards optimal data management practices and compliance. Overall, the Manager of Data Governance plays a crucial role in planning and executing initiatives that contribute to the organization's success in a data-driven landscape.

What you’ll be doing
- Lead a small team to implement a distributed data governance approach with embedded Data Owners and Stewards across AGL's lines of business.
- Maintain and communicate the Data Governance Framework, Standards, and Practices to business stakeholders.
- Educate and guide Business Data Owners and Stewards to enhance AGL's data governance practices.
- Execute administrative duties for the Data Council Steering Committee and Data Stewardship Forums.
- Collaborate with management to prioritize business and information requirements, improving traceability and data quality.
- Contribute to key data-based projects and initiatives, including implementing and supporting Data Governance Tools across AGL.

About you
- Leadership experience with diverse technical teams in project and agile settings.
- Familiarity with data governance principles, including search, lineage, security, policy, and quality.
- Strong communication and writing skills, including influencing senior stakeholders.
- Desirable experience in implementing metadata, business glossary, and data quality tools, with exposure to cloud environments and APIs.
- Proven ability to identify process improvement opportunities and drive cultural change, aligning with AGL's values.
