The Western Australian Police Union of Workers (WAPU) is seeking a proactive Communications Officer to join their team. In this key role, you'll promote WAPU's work and effectively communicate their messages to various stakeholders. Working closely with the Corporate Communications Manager, you'll focus on content creation, communication strategies and media engagement. Your responsibilities will include WAPU member and public communications, supporting partnerships and events. **About Us**
The WA Police Union of Workers (WAPU) represents the professional and industrial interests of nearly 7,000 police officers, police recruits, cadets and police auxiliary officers employed by the WA Police Force. Covering the portfolios of; Legal, Industrial Relations, WHS, Welfare, Media, Internal Advocacy, Research, Administration and Member Services, WAPU plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction and ensuring the well-being of its constituents. WAPU is registered with the WA Industrial Relations Commission (WAIRC) and affiliated with the Police Federation of Australia (PFA).
**About the Role**
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Assist in building strong media relationships and support the Corporate Communications Manager in media liaison and event coordination.
- Ensure prompt responses to media inquiries and seek opportunities to promote WAPU's priorities.
- Lead content planning, post scheduling and audience engagement across WAPU's social media platforms.
- Track social media trends and interactions, responding promptly and professionally to inquiries.
- Help develop internal and external materials like newsletters and presentations to engage with key issues and campaigns.
- Assist in managing corporate partnerships and member benefits, ensuring alignment with objectives.
- Track relevant media coverage and assist in analysing trends and public sentiment.
- Support WAPU events by managing logistics, capturing content and updating social media and internal communications.
**About You**
- Hold a tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.
- Skilled in creating compelling social media content and maintaining websites.
- Have experience with bulk and targeted EDM creation and campaign execution.
- Strong writing, proofreading and editorial skills with a good eye for detail.
- Proficient in Adobe suite programs and have experience with Google Analytics and SEO.
- Highly organised, able to manage multiple tasks and prioritise responsibilities effectively.
- You bring a proactive approach to media engagement and maintain professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Strong interpersonal skills and can build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with issues related to law enforcement, industrial relations or public policy is advantageous.
