**The Role**
We are seeking two highly motivated science and technology leaders with a passion for delivering innovative and valued outcomes to Defence in the Aerodynamics and the Maritime Mining & Countermeasures Systems groups. The Group Leader will guide and inspire their staff to push the frontiers of science and technology, work with the Science Technology Capability (STC) experts at a conceptual level to create new scientific insights, and work with DSTG’s delivery stakeholders to transition these insights into Defence capability.
The Maritime Mining & Countermeasures Systems STC provides sovereign expertise on sea mines, how they operate and the specific vessel signatures that they target, as well as sea mine countermeasures systems. A particular expertise within the STC is the magnetic, corrosion related magnetic and electric signatures of Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Vessels.
Group Leaders will:
- Be accountable for leading a team, planning and managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
- Commit to the enhancement of capabilities, information, knowledge and the transition of staff skills to meet project needs.
- Draw upon expertise in a specialised field of science and have a broad understanding of the domain knowledge to lead and undertake research activities.
- Develop and maintain a team culture within their STC that promotes the clear communication of goals and objectives, mutual support among the team members and accountability for outcomes.

Platforms Division is inclusive workforce delivering scientific advice, conducting research and developing innovative technologies to meet existing and future defence challenges.
Collaborating with the S&T ecosystem, Platforms Division develops, integrates and experiments with innovative technologies to produce effective S&T solutions for crewed and uncrewed ADF platforms across air, land, maritime and space to achieve capability advantage.

- Signatures and Survivability
Platforms Division is geographically diverse, with sites located at Edinburgh SA, Fishermans Bend VIC and Eveleigh NSW.
- An international reputation for excellence in a field relevant to the STC and have extensive experience, awareness and knowledge across a broad range of science that can be applied to Defence.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including to convey complex information and concepts to a broad spectrum of audiences including military and civilian Defence personnel, government departments and agencies, industry, academia and other stakeholders.
- Experience in, or aptitude for, understanding client priorities and achieving outcomes that meet customer needs.
- Negotiate and influence parties with differing or conflicting interests to develop and implement solutions.
