The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent government agency which, in partnership with Basin governments, manages the Murray-Darling Basin’s water resources in the national interest. With the enactment of the Water Act 2007, the MDBA was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.

The MDBA aims to achieve a healthy working Basin for the benefit of all Australians. The Murray-Darling Basin contains a rich diversity of natural environments that are unique in Australia and the world. The Basin is also crucial to Australia’s economy and home to 2.3 million Australians, including people from over 40 First Nations. How we manage the Basin as a whole connected system, manage our water carefully, and protect it for future generations is set out in the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

**The Position**
The Assistant Director Joint Venture Business Program team will work closely with the E-PMO Managers and business areas throughout the MDBA to coordinate the ongoing administration of the Joint Programs including coordinating planning and reporting on Joint funded programs and projects and ensure that processes are practical, robust and transparent.

The position supports informed decision making across the MDBA by working closely with Program leads across all MDBA Portfolios and providing high level strategic advice to the MDBA Executive, the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, other agencies of the Australian Government, Ministerial Council, Basin Officials Committee, the Basin States and Territories and wider stakeholders.

**Specific duties**

In this role you will:

- Take a lead role in the proactive development of innovative technical solutions for the continuous improvement and optimisation of the Joint Program strategic business planning, performance reporting and associated business systems;
- Develop and manage the annual investment cycle, work planning, budgeting and the program and project performance reporting requirements.
- Evaluate and present financial, performance and risk assessment data for a range of audiences
- Carryout health checks on projects at any time during the lifecycle and/or as requested by the Program Board, including capability assessments.
- Evaluate and guide the prioritisation and scheduling of initiatives while providing advice and support to the team, the wider MDBA and its funding partners.
- Coordinate cross-functional internal and external resources and supervise staff as required.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Maintain a high level of written and oral communication including the preparation of agenda papers, presentations and briefing notes for MDBA Executive, Working Groups and High Level Committees as required.
