**The Role**
The duties of an APS 6 ICT Security Specialist - Team Leader include the following:
- Accountable to lead a team, allocate work, resources and tasks, set work area priorities, develop strategies and evaluate business outcomes.
- Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes, share own expertise with others and guide and mentor less experienced employees.
- Deliver information and cyber security reporting, policy or doctrine, which may include analysis, detection and response statistics, security incidents and breaches.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with stakeholders and customers relating to the suitability and implementation of information and cyber security systems, policies, standards and guidelines.
- Encourage a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment and facilitate teamwork and group activities.
- Assess and analyse information and cyber security practices and procedures to ensure compliance with security principles, policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Interpret business objectives and adapts and adjusts team priorities to progress work and meet business objectives.
- Research and identify information and cyber security vulnerabilities and forecast potential intrusion methods to improve security.
This position is a non-ongoing position, available until 15 October 2027.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. **About our Team**
As a Team Leader, you will:
- Support the team in managing and influencing positive security outcomes in the usage and administration of Defence ICT.
- Ensure that the Commonwealth best utilises available resources to discover, analyse and report compliance states of Defence ICT.
- As a minimum standard, advocate support in ensuring the alignment of Defence ICT to the ASD Essential 8 mitigation strategies through targeted advisories and routine compliance forums.
- Work with mínimal supervision to prioritise, research, coordinate, and deliver a full range of high quality deliverables in a busy small team environment.
- Skilfully manage a range of competing priorities, effectively adjust to changing work demands and deliver successful outcomes/meet deadlines.
- Be responsible for managing key stakeholder relationships and to identify relevant stakeholder expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes.
- Demonstrate the capability of building team capability through coaching, feedback, reviewing, and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit.
Within Defence Cyber and Information Assurance Branch of Cyber Command, Cyber Security Compliance (CSC) team works closely with a variety of stakeholders and monitors compliance of Defence ICT infrastructure.
The main role of CSC team is to aid protection of the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Defence data. CSC is a small team of highly skilled Cyber Security Experts.
CSC team performs following functions:
- Influence Vulnerability & Patch Management of Defence ICT.
- Host and manage the Defence Cyber Security Compliance forum - to enable timely communication with key Defence ICT stakeholders on matters pertaining to Defence ICT security posture.
- Discuss methods and mechanisms by which risks and vulnerabilities are minimised or eradicated thus providing higher compliance levels of cyber security in line with the intent of the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD)/Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) Essential 8 (strategies to mitigate cyber security incidents).
- Undertake the role of Cyber Hygiene Improvement Program (CHIPs) lead for the Defence Portfolio regarding management and reporting of potential cyber threats.
