We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced person to fill the role of Media/Communications Officer in the Office of the Hon. Sophie Cotsis MP, Minister of Industrial Relations, Minister for Work Health and Safety.
**About the Minister**:
The Hon. Sophie Cotsis MP is the Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Work, Health and Safety. She first entered NSW Parliament as a Member of the Legislative Council in September 2010 and served as a member of the Shadow Cabinet since 2011. As a Senior Minister of the Minns NSW Government, Minister Cotsis continues her work on reforms that focus on working conditions and safety measures in the workplace.
**About the role**:
- The role plays a pivotal role in the team, and will suit someone who has:
- a strong news sense and is passionate the ability of clear communication to foster public change;
- versatility to shift between different portfolio areas;
- appreciation of the impact of both traditional and digital media; and
- interest in working in a fast-paced environment.
The role is responsible for ensuring appropriate preparation for the Minister’s public speaking engagements. This can range from substantial keynote speeches to large audiences and media, to informal remarks at industry engagement opportunities.
This role will play the essential role of ensuring the Minister’s narrative and public voice is consistent across mediums, with the tone and approach adjusted to resonate with and engage the appropriate audience.
**Functions of the role**:
This role will be responsible for working with the policy team, departments, and agencies to source relevant policy information and weave a narrative that is in line with the Minister’s voice, priorities, policy position and relevant to the audience.
This role will help shape and evolve the key messages and narrative for the Minister’s various policy responsibilities and ensure these are reflected across all external communication channels, such as speeches, media grabs, and social media posts, delivering media engagement and awareness nationally, responding to internal and external requests for media responses, and building strong relationships with members of the media and key internal stakeholders.

- You have excellent communication skills including strong messaging, narrative and writing skills.
- You have a strong understanding how to engage and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- You have the ability to show initiative and work under mínimal supervision and under pressure.
- You are a polished networker with the ability to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, and work collaboratively across offices, and sectors.
- You have the proven ability to deliver to deadlines.
- You are flexible, agile and have availability to attend some after-hours and occasional weekend events.
