**Position Information**:
Emerton Public School, located in Western Sydney, with a current enrolment of 230 students including 22% of students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 48% from Pacific Islander background in 11 classes (9 mainstream and 2 support classes). The staff are dedicated professionals and include early career and experienced teachers who are committed to providing high quality literacy and numeracy programs that promote student engagement. The school is engaged in a variety of successful programs to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes including sport, public speaking and debating. The school actively implements a positive behaviour approach promoting safe, respectful learners. Emerton Public School promotes strong links to the local community.
Transition support teachers, early intervention support, individualised, coordinated and systematic transitions for children below school age who have a disability or learning support need. They work with local schools and families, other professionals and agencies to support transition to early intervention or to school. They also assist families to access relevant early intervention programs outside the department, prior to school entry.
**Selection Criteria**:
- Approval to teach with knowledge and/or experience in special education and/or teaching early intervention. Demonstrated capacity to work closely with Student Support and Specialist Programs local learning and wellbeing team to manage the referral process and monitor the operation of the transition support teacher, early intervention service.
- Proven capacity to effectively support local schools to plan smooth transitions for young children in collaboration with families and relevant professionals, including connecting with targeted support for Aboriginal children and families, children in out of home care, children from migrant or refugee backgrounds and children living in low socio-economic circumstances.
- Experience and/or knowledge in developing and implementing engaging learning programs that reflect the principles, practices and outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders, as well as providing guidance and support. High level knowledge and skills in the provision of general advice to parents to assist them in accessing support for their children with disability or support needs provided in NSW public schools and targeted specialist support.
