**The Role**
Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS) is looking for a motivated and professional individual to fill the role of Critical Incidents Officer within our Helpline, Incidents and Welfare Policy Directorate (HWIP). We are seeking an individual with well-developed writing and time management skills who can work collaboratively with a small team.

Duties include:

- Administrative tasks in relation to supporting members and families following the death or serious injury/illness of an ADF member
- Provide accurate advice to internal and external stakeholders regarding entitlements and other support programs that may be available

**About our Team**
The successful applicant will work within the Helpline, Incidents and Welfare Policy Directorate (HIWP), which includes the 24/7 Defence Member and Family Helpline. The directorate is staffed by administrative staff, human services professionals and military personnel and is part of the Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS) Branch.

The DMFS mission is to enhance Defence capability through responsive and collaborative initiatives. DMFS assists the military community, including families, by facilitating access to community and other services, providing direct welfare support where appropriate, and delivering comprehensive advice and information.

The successful applicant will play a key role in delivering these support services and in doing so will help Defence achieve its mission to defend Australia and its national interests in order to advance Australia’s security and prosperity. A key responsibility of HIWP is to provide ADF members and their families with support and assistance following a critical incident or injury.

The occupant of this position will possess well-developed writing and time-management skills, and a very keen attention to detail. They will be responsive to feedback and able to work as a member of a busy team within a high tempo Directorate.

To be successful in this role you will be required to complete a number of administrative tasks in supporting members and families following the death or serious injury/illness of an ADF member. These tasks include developing credible decision briefs in relation to expenditure of public funds, preparing letters to families and legal representatives, processing payments to eligible recipients and drafting correspondence on behalf of senior government and ADF representatives.

The occupant of this position will therefore possess verbal and written communication skills, and a keen attention to detail while working within a high tempo Directorate.
