The successful applicants can work out of either of our offices located in Adelaide, Belconnen (Canberra), Brisbane, Docklands (Melbourne), Hobart or Sydney, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) apply.

**About the roles**

The ABS is seeking people who possess strong leadership ability and are experienced people managers with HR experience to lead the provision of high-level advice and the effective and efficient delivery of HR services.
- People Development (Learning and Development)
- People Strategies (design and implementation of ABS’ Workforce Strategy 2021-25, including contemporary ways of working and job roles)

In addition to meeting the Integrated Leadership Executive Level 1 work level standards, primary accountabilities of an Assistant Director role in our People Strategies and Capabilities Branch may include:

- leading flexible teams and/or projects in the design and implementation of HR related policies, models and frameworks, business improvements and initiatives to achieve ABS objectives
- conducting analysis of HR data and reporting on current/emerging workforce issues and trends to inform strategy and solutions for the ABS workforce
- leading engagement with senior leaders across the business to identify, design, deliver and evaluate effective workforce capability solutions aligned to and tracked against ABS objectives and business outcomes
- design creative learning solutions (initiatives, programs and pathways) driven by business need which enhance the capability of ABS workforce and drive clear learning and career pathways
- developing and implementing communication and change plans to ensure effective communication with stakeholders across all stages of business engagement and delivery of workforce solutions
- leading, managing, monitoring and reviewing team priorities, evaluating team and individual performance, providing regular constructive feedback, technical training and guidance, and mentoring team members to achieve their full potential.

To be suitable you will have the following skills, qualities and experience:

- demonstrated ability to shape and drive strategy; be curious, collaborative and solutions focused and deliver quality outcomes in a dynamic environment with competing priorities
- excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce information in an inclusive, clear and concise manner in a variety of media for a range of audiences
- strong leadership, project and stakeholder management, facilitation, engagement and coaching skills, and a collaborative approach when working with others
- good judgement in problem solving, decision making and risk and issues management
- excellent research and conceptual and analytical thinking skills to inform timely, evidence-based decision making aligned to strategic direction.

You will also have experience in one or more of the following:

- instructional design and/or adult learning
- organisational change and/or cultural transformation
- organisational workforce planning and metrics
- job design.
