The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is leading the Australian Public Service Data Professional Stream to develop a data capable APS workforce. A group of APS agencies are looking to fill multiple Geospatial Specialist roles across their organisations. The agencies are:

- Australian Climate Service - ACS Public. Office locations: Canberra, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, Townsville, with other locations considered.

- Department of Health and Aged Care - Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. Office locations: Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, with other locations considered.
- Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts - Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts. Office location: Canberra, with other locations considered.

We are looking to fill Geospatial Specialist (APS5, APS6 and EL1) roles in the participating agencies. This is part of an overall strategy to build a Geospatial Profession career stream across the Australian Public Service (APS). This will provide Geospatial Professionals in the APS with clear pathways for career development and advancement over time, which will include opportunities for movement between roles and provision of training.

These roles support government, business and society to tackle some of Australia’s largest challenges such as climate change and environmental management, sustainable economic and social development, responding to emergencies, and social and regional equity. Where Geospatial Specialists provide leadership, support and services for the collection, production, dissemination, and integration of geospatial, statistical, environmental, administrative and other data.

Geospatial Specialists are responsible for projects that use a broad range of geospatial skills. These skills include analysis, mapping, and visualisation, as well as geospatial technology and infrastructure management, data management, data processing and data dissemination. They also develop a range of geospatial products, including datasets that are foundational geospatial resources that are used by government and the public, across Australia and internationally.

Geospatial Specialists engage with internal and with external stakeholders to build capability in geospatial analysis and support the use of location information in policy and service design. Geospatial Specialists may also engage and collaborate across the statistical and geospatial communities, nationally and internationally, to influence emerging geospatial issues and future innovations.

The roles are available to be filled in the locations specified. Placements will be based on the needs of the hiring agencies and to meet the requirements of a merit based process.

**Your qualities, experiences, and skills (selection criteria)**

To be suitable for any of the roles listed below it is essential that you demonstrate the skills, qualities, and experience for
**criterion 1 and 2**, and most of the skills, qualities and experience for the remaining criteria.

**APS5 - Geospatial Specialist, Team Member**
- Demonstrated ability to take personal responsibility for work tasks and work collaboratively within a team to deliver projects in a dynamic and complex environment.

**APS6 - Geospatial Specialist, Team Leader**
- Demonstrated ability to work within teams and foster collaboration. The ability to also manage and develop people is an advantage for some positions.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to assess complex information and contribute to innovative, sustainable solutions.
- Well-developed workplace communication skills - oral, written and presentation - including the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders, and convey clear information to non-technical audiences.

**EL1 - Geospatial Specialist, Assistant Director**
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop people, and build collaborative high performing teams.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to assess complex information and broader contextual factors to develop innovative, sustainable solutions.
- Highly-developed workplace communication skills - oral, written and presentation - including the abi
