Key responsibilities include:
- Assists in the implementation of the City’s key conservation strategies, including the City’s Plan for Nature, Environment Strategy and Rabbit Control Plan.
- Delivers projects that improve the extent and quality of natural ecosystems and wildlife habitat, and increase the protection of native plants and animals.
- Conducts activities and programs to educate the community about nature and threatened species.
- Develops and delivers programs that protect threatened species such as Grey-headed Flying-fox and the Hooded Plover.
- Oversees the City’s pest animal control program to reduce the impacts of rabbits and foxes on our local biodiversity.
- Assists with the development and review of Council’s programs related to environment and biodiversity.
- Actively engages and supports relevant community groups such as ‘Friends of’ groups, Coastcare and Landcare.
**About you**
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in a relevant field - i.e., natural resource management, environment science and extensive experience in project management.
Essential Experience:
- Demonstrated experience protecting and enhancing biodiversity values with a goal of improving their extent, quality and amenity.
- Demonstrated experience in project and contractor management.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, both verbally and in writing.
- Experience providing strategic and policy advice on environment and biodiversity issues.
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with a range of stakeholders, both external and internal, to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of local government’s role and responsibility relating to environment and biodiversity.
