About ULA

We are looking for baristas to join our brand-new coffee and tea shop and get in on the ground floor of a small, tight-knit team. We are committed to providing high-quality coffee and tea by integrating a 'personal' coffee and tea drinking experience within a 'personalised' coffee and tea space, and be a pioneer in this colourful and diverse Melbourne world of coffee.

We are located on the ground floor of the Yorkshire Brewery Tower—Collingwood's most iconic historic building

About the team/role

You will work with passionate and professional crew where hierarchy is totally absent. Your voice will be heard and respected. Staff will start as casual with the potential to move to part-time/full time depending on how well you fit into the team/role. Given that the team is small we are very sensitive to team dynamics and value enjoying each other’s company.

About the opportunity

This is a hospitality opportunity, but also the chance to be a kind of ambassador for a new type of cafe (and vice versa). We are looking for people to represent the company to customers and take ownership, yet also contribute to how the company grows.

We believe in ‘True Connection’. As an independent brand, one of our fundamental principles that we try to act out is the belief in ‘small supports small’. To this end, we work as much as possible with independent-brands and companies. E.g. Roaster(s), tea farmers, suppliers, etc. We find this allows for greater communication and deeper connection between both parties which helps with up-stream knowledge sharing, transparency and community growth.

The coffee/tea bar area is designed and hand built by the owner (a barista) to create a comfortable/insanely spacious working environment and flawless working flow for baristas.

We use state-of-the-art coffee/tea equipment, technology and systems.

We pay award rates and flexibility to suit your work-life balance.

We are looking for people that are not only passionate about the coffee industry, but more importantly, have an ambition/strong attitude for continuous personal growth. We are trying to create a small crew of down-to-earth and unpretentious people who are willing to share, good at learning and highly respectful of others.

Experience
- At least two years of specialty coffee experience as a full-time barista.

**Skills**:

- A solid understanding of coffee extraction (Espresso and Filter)
- Our coffee recipes will often rely on group involvement, where everyone’s opinions/thoughts are factored into adjusting/updating recipes.
- Proper milk texturing and pouring
- Having mastered the basic shapes is a must (e.g. tulips, rosettas).
- High-level of common sense.
- Able to maintain our high standard under pressure.
- Great customer service.
- Great communication.

Attitude
- A strong work ethic. Respect colleagues, respect guests, respect the brand, respect the community
- The desire to engage in every detail of day-to-day operations, and introduce our coffee/tea retail offerings and our brand to customers.
- A growing mindset - continuous seeking for personal growth
- Be punctual.

- Must have the rights to work in Australia.

Hours
- 20 to 40 hours per week.
