Market Operations Lead

Role Overview

VIOTAS has an attractive opportunity for a Market Operations Lead to join our growing team as part of its exciting expansion. The role will be part of the Market Operations team and interface with other Australian teams and some European counterparts. The Market Operations team is the center of expertise on market design, market intelligence, regulatory affairs, portfolio management and the day-to-day operations of all market responsibilities such as site eligibility, registration, performance monitoring and financial settlement.

The Market Operations team also seeks to minimise the company’s risk exposure in active DR programs, identify improvements and suggest innovative solutions which can be deployed locally and adopted by the parent company for international markets.

Key Accountabilities
- Complete day-to-day market operations tasks:

- Load feasibility assessments to determine eligible sites for DR programs
- Bidding/dispatch analysis and reporting
- Site testing analysis and reporting during the market registration process
- Post-event performance analysis and AEMO compliance reporting
- Payment reconciliation and billing
- Reviewing and evaluating the performance of the portfolio and communicating key insights to senior management, with a strong focus on availability
- Lead development and market participation of one or more core products and services
- Provide analysis and research support for the development of new products and services in existing or new markets
- Define requirements for new products and engage with the product development team to support building the capability to implement these new products and services.
- Identify potential opportunities to optimise (technically and commercially) the existing portfolio as well as identifying opportunities for enhanced future demand response participation
- Coordinate with other teams within the organisation to resolve issues as they arise in a timely and effectively manner
- Develop tools and processes to enable best practice portfolio performance analysis and optimisation, and deliver knowledge sharing sessions with other colleagues
- Support other teams by providing ad-hoc analysis for tender responses, sales and other requests
- Contribute to and/or prepare regulatory submissions

Essential Requirements
- Numerate or analytical degree in a science / engineering / economics / similar discipline
- 4+ years of experience
- Electricity sector experience or knowledge
- Excellent quantitative and analytical capability including data analysis and presenting
- A demonstrated ability to work at pace, prioritise and create focus to achieve successful outcomes
- Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with the local and international teams within the company
- Professional and self-motivated with the ability to be office-based and to work remotely.
- Demonstrated ability to work and learn independently, with guidance and direction from manager

Desirable Requirements
- Experience or understanding of demand response or energy management systems
- An understanding of Australia’s energy markets and/or ancillary service markets
- Knowledge of associated technologies including backup generation, CHP, refrigeration, etc.
- Experience with industrial or generation interval data
- Programming (eg Python) or strong MS Excel experience
