Principal Project Officer

**This is a new position, responsible for supporting the development and finalisation of a Prioritisation Framework for protected areas in Queensland and providing strategic direction and advice to the Department on innovative agreements including the implementation of the Agreement Making Framework. The role involves working in a small team collaboratively, across Queensland with both regional and operational staff and with First Nations people, and provides support to the Manager to provide advice to the Department on agreements in a way that embodies a First Nations perspective, underpins the co-stewarding the of the cultural and natural values, and aligns with Government policy requirements to reframe relationships
Your contribution:
- Demonstrate a general understanding the Nature Conservation Act 1992 (Qld) and Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), and how they interact with protected area and land management.
- Support the finalisation and implementation of the Agreement Making Framework including providing agreement making advice and strategies as required, that consider First Nations perspectives and incorporate people, community, country and co-stewardship principles.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with First Nations people, community, special interest groups, and other agencies to underpin the success of the project.

About you
- Experience in project management methodologies, principles and practices, including an ability to effectively manage resources to deliver and design Frameworks
- Demonstrated general understanding of the Nature Conservation Act 1992 (Qld) and the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), and how they interact with protected area and land management, and mechanisms for involving indigenous people in protected area management.
- Demonstrated contemporary knowledge and understanding of agreement making methodologies such as Indigenous Land Use Agreements, Memorandum of Understandings or similar.
