**About the role**:
You will be responsible for establishing and implementing processes and systems to ensure EPA’s compliance with applicable privacy laws, including the Victorian Information Privacy Principles within the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014. You will advise on privacy impact assessments and support privacy governance, reporting to the Senior Executive Committee on privacy operations, risks, and controls, aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities, to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste. This is a senior management role for an experienced privacy practitioner that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA as it enters a new era of environmental protection in Victoria. You will contribute to a positive organisational culture and ensure you achieve the highest standards of performance and integrity; fostering genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to deliver organisational outcomes.
**In this role you will**:
- Oversee and manage the implementation and operation of privacy management initiatives across EPA; drive continuous improvement in EPA’s privacy management strategy and framework to achieve operational maturity; develop privacy policies, technical or professional standards, and new program, processes or project initiatives; advise on privacy impact assessments and report to the Senior Executive Committee on privacy operations, risks, and controls.
- Monitor compliance with applicable privacy laws, including the Victorian Information Privacy Principles within the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014; support the development of execution of information sharing agreements in line with the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC) guidelines; be the main contact point for OVIC on issues relating to privacy.
- Coordinate and manage privacy processes across the EPA, including complaints, data breach management; work closely with the Legal team and IT to ensure delivery of improvements in Victorian Protective Data Security Standards compliance.
- Ensure a robust, transparent, risk and evidence-based approach; drive process improvements within the Data and Insights office and the broader EPA to achieve regulatory excellence and priority outcomes in a more effective and efficient way.
**kills and experience**:
- A minimum of 5-years’ experience working in Data Governance and privacy compliance including building privacy management frameworks, reporting to privacy regulators, advising on privacy impact assessments, managing data breach response processes and handling privacy requests and complaints
- Ability to systematically analyse all available evidence/data as the basis of decision making and provide authoritative advice and professional leadership on highly complex and sensitive governance, audit, risk management matters.
- Proven ability to achieve organisational objectives through responsible management of financial and material resources and inter-agency collaboration. Maintain a high standard of practice through governance and risk management.
