**The Role**
- Providing advice that influences the practice of safety professionals in Navy.
- Providing specialist advice on the development and review of safety policy and approach to safety risk management.
- Representing Navy Safety and Environment (NavySafE) in working groups and other forums.
- Contributing to and providing advice to the senior executive on regulatory reviews.
- Incident investigations and other technical assessments.

**About our Team**
The Navy Safety and Environment (NavySafE) team is part of the Navy Engineering Division and works across a range of specialisations including work health and safety, occupational hygiene, and environment. NavySafE is accountable for developing and sustaining Navy's Safety and Environment Management Systems, and assuring Navy senior leadership that these systems are effectively implemented and maintained.
- The ability to think outside the square and understand the significant importance in enhancing Defence’s and NavySafe’s capabilities for the future.
- Have an in-depth knowledge of WHS legislative frameworks and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
- Understanding of the strategic objectives of the organisation and ability to develop work plans regarding ongoing review and development of safety policy.
- Contribute their own expertise for the benefit of the business unit and will encourage others in the team to draw upon this knowledge.
- Be responsible for coordinating and assuming responsibility for high level safety policy projects and work programs for the Branch. These programs have strategic and operational significance.
- Will have in-depth knowledge of the WHS Act and will be responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to the Act and other regulations and policies.
- Will build and sustain relationships with a network of key people, both within and external to Defence, to proactively deliver outcomes at the enterprise level.
- A practical, results-focused approach, combined with excellent judgment.
