**The opportunity we have available**
The Work Health and Safety (WHS) Advisor role is a position within the department’s WHS team that consults and works closely with stakeholders across the department. The WHS team is part of the Safety, Wellbeing and Performance Section that is responsible the delivery of a broad range of innovative human resource services and practices. We aim to successfully equip staff and managers to meet immediate and emerging WHS challenges, and work collaboratively with the branches to coordinate and deliver professional centralised services to the department.
**What will you do?**
We are looking for an APS 5 WHS Adviser to join our team and develop their knowledge and skills as work health and safety professional. The WHS team is responsible for implementing the department’s Work Health and Safety Management System, the provision of WHS advice and the promotion of health and wellbeing initiatives across the department. The WHS Advisor plays a key role in delivering the business as usual activities of the team and organising the department’s Healthy Living Month and Safe Work Month initiatives. The APS 5 will review policies and procedures and contribute to the broader work of the section.
This role includes:
- Providing advice and recommendations to the department in line with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Regulations, and Codes of Practice, including responding to inquiries in the WHS Inbox.
- Undertaking secretariat activities for the HSR Network Meeting and support preparation for the department’s WHS Committee.
- Managing the Health and Safety Representatives program including coordinating filling of vacant positions and training.
- Reviewing Home Based Work Applications and coordinating comprehensive workstation assessments with staff and providers.
- Incident and hazard report management.
- Coordinating the workplace hazard inspections program
- Leading the development and scheduling of initiatives and activities that promote and encourage safety and wellbeing in the workplace.
- Contributing to the identification and implementation of system and process improvement initiatives.
- Undertaking reviews of WHS policies, guidelines and procedures.
- Managing the departments first aid program

- provide secretariat for meetings including coordinating meetings and writing minutes.

- A certificate IV (or higher) in Work Health and Safety is mandatory.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a client service focus with a wide variety of stakeholders, valuing different perspectives, contributions and backgrounds.
