The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**Overview of the Branch**:
Cyber Policy and Strategy Branch is an exciting, innovative and rewarding place to work. We lead on a range of priority policy challenges and cutting-edge issues, providing advice to Ministers and senior executive to protect Australia’s national security, prosperity and unity. We operate in a dynamic environment and deliver future-focused advice in response to Government priorities.

The Branch leads the development of cyber security policy for the Australian Government, overseeing the implementation of Australia’s Cyber Security Strategy 2020 and supporting development of the next Cyber Security Strategy. The Branch works across the Australian Government, state and territory governments, international partners and industry stakeholders to achieve a range of cyber policy outcomes. The Branch works on a range of diverse initiatives, including cyber security reforms across the digital economy, responses to significant cyber incidents, and working domestically and internationally to tackle the global challenge of ransomware.

**About the roles**

As a Policy Officer within Cyber Security Policy and Strategy Branch, you will work on the frontline of developing and progressing major policy initiatives to uplift cyber resilience across Australia, and drive the work agenda for Australia’s first Minister for Cyber Security.

Cyber Security Strategy and Governance section leads governance and coordination of Australia’s Cyber Security Strategy 2020, and provides policy and strategic advice to internal and external stakeholders on associated topics in cyber. CSSG supports governance, evaluation and updates of the Strategy, as well as publication of related reports. The team provides secretariat support for the relevant governance and advisory boards and committees, including the Cyber Security Industry Advisory Committee (CSIAC), and the Band 3 Cyber Security Inter-Departmental Committee (B3IDC), as well as other inter-departmental and inter-government meetings and working groups on cyber security.

The Cyber and Digital Economy Policy section leads on urgent cyber security policy priorities as well as policy advice to Government about the best way to increase cyber resilience across Australia’s digital economy. The team works closely with a range of stakeholders, including government, industry and international partners to progress a range of current and emerging cyber policy matters including consumer and industrial IoT, software security standards, and ransomware.

The Cyber Strategic Response Policy section leads policy advice on a range of strategic cyber issues, including responses to significant cyber incidents. A key function of this team is to lead engagement with international partners and other key stakeholders on key cyber security priorities, including countering ransomware. The Cyber International Engagement section handles international engagement and meetings, to progress and influence bilateral and multilateral outcomes aligning with Australia’s international interests in cyber, with Quad being a primary area of engagement.

**Specific duties/responsibilities**:

- Maintain awareness of local and global policy developments to identify emerging issues/risks and their implications for cyber policy direction.
- Contribute to strategic policy advice on emerging domestic and international cyber issues.
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships across government and industry to ensure effective communication of policy advice.
