**TARGETED VACANCY - Identified Family Group Meeting Convenor - South East Region. It is a genuine occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. One of the referees should be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant's background, knowledge, skills and experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities.
Travel across Child Safety Service Centres in the South East Region is required to be able to perform the key duties and responsibilities of this position. The possession of a driver's licence is a mandatory requirement. Accepted driver's licences fall into the following categories: (open) or P2 (provisional green P plate); and "C" or "CA" class driver's licence.
It is a requirement for the person in this role to hold a valid Blue Card before commencing.
The primary responsibility of the Family Group Meeting Convenor is to facilitate family group meetings in accordance with the Child Protection Act 1999; that is, to ensure that family group meetings provide family-based responses to children's protection and care needs, and to ensure an inclusive process of case planning and decision making for the child.
By drawing on your personal experience and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions and customs to provide high quality, culturally safe and appropriate services to those involved in Family Group Meeting processes; contribute to the development of family-led plans at various stages of the department's involvement with children and their families; and have the ability to provide learning and mentoring to help continue building the cultural capability of staff.
Key duties and responsibilities
Manage and coordinate the family group meeting process including referrals, identifying and coordinating participants, and facilitating meetings.
Ensure the family group meeting process is facilitated in accordance with legislative principles and requirements.
Prepare people to participate in family group meetings, including ensuring that all participants have a clear understanding of the purpose of the family group meeting.
Obtain the views of persons who are unable to attend the family group meeting.
Manage conflict that may occur within the family group meeting process.
Liaise with relevant internal staff and with the Recognised Entity and interpreters where appropriate.
Maintain accurate records of case plans and other relevant information in accordance with departmental guidelines.
Enhance the local regional community by actively practicing and promoting excellence in service delivery and public administration and identifying opportunities for improving regional client service.
