**ABOUT THE ROLE**:Moreland Libraries are about more than just books. Our libraries are vibrant neighbourhood hubs offering social connection, cultural interactions and learning opportunities. Currently, we are seeking a Librarian who is passionate about providing a high-quality service to our diverse community.
In performing this role some of your day-to-day responsibilities will be to engage with our diverse community to provide great customer service. Assist with library initiatives to bridge the digital divide. Supervise and support other team members. Organise programs and activities targeting people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and promoting multicultural themes to the wider community. Select library materials in community languages and assist with collection maintenance.
This is a designated position. The Racial Discrimination Act permits special measures that foster greater racial equality in the Australian community. Only people from a Culturally & Linguistically Diverse background are eligible to apply, as this position is exempt under the Special Measure Provision, Section 12 (1) of the Equal Opportunity Act 2011 (Vic).
The phrase ‘culturally and linguistically diverse’ is a broad term used to describe communities with diverse languages, ethnicity, culture, nationalities, traditions, societal structures and religions. For this role we are looking for applicants who identify with the above, specifically applicant from a non-English speaking or non-dominate cultural, religious or ethnic background.
**SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE**:
- Teamwork, supervisory and communication skills
- Demonstrable problem-solving skills
- Ability to lead, motivate and coach staff to achieve team goals and objectives
- Demonstrable experience in customer service provision
- Demonstrable digital literacy skills
- Experience with website content management and social media
- Experience in organising community-based programs
- Degree in Library and Information Services or similar field with relevant work experience, or through lesser formal qualifications with relevant work skills and experience
- Fluency in a community language is desirable
