Manager, Policy and Market Regulation

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen within our Market Regulation Team. The role will provide you with a unique opportunity to join a successful team operating in a high pace, external facing and challenging environment.

This role would appeal to someone with interests in Emerging Technologies, Distributed Energy Resources or Electric Vehicles.

About the role:
As the Manager, Policy and Market Regulation, you will be a key influencer and advocate for the changes needed to facilitate the industry transition to a high Customer Energy Resources (CER) future. A key focus will be AGL’s role in CER integration, future energy services, and emerging markets. You will play a critical role in regulatory design, development and market implementation of these reforms.

Key purpose of this role (and team)

The Policy and Market Regulations team is responsible for the development of AGL’s position on various energy market reform processes and delivering an appropriate advocacy strategy to support those positions. The Policy and Regulation Manager role is responsible for internal engagement across the enterprise and externally to develop positions on a wide range of energy market policies and regulations. The Policy and Regulation Manager is also responsible for providing ongoing regulatory support to the business to assist with understanding and meeting new obligations in the energy market.

What you’ll be doing
- Analysing broader regulatory trends, the policy environment and industry issues to inform current and future impacts on AGL's operations, with a focus on emerging markets and future technologies including Distributed Energy Resources and Electric Vehicles.- To develop advocacy strategies and draft submissions to help shape market reform in a way that supports AGL’s corporate strategy, operations and provides good outcomes for its customers.- Liaise with the broader business to determine key risks, mitigate them and advocate for regulatory change where relevant.- To support the enterprise by ensuring that regulatory changes are identified and implemented operationally a timely manner.- Assisting in updating internal stakeholders on current policy and regulatory reforms and their progress.- Representing AGL's interests on external regulatory and industry meetings, forums and working groups where relevant

What we need from you
- Broad understanding of the Australian energy industry and Distributed Energy Resources- Strong interpersonal skills with high quality written and verbal communication skills- Strong analytical and conceptual skills- Effective project management skills- Broad experience in dealing with Governments, Regulators, and industry groups

What you’ll bring to the table
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in dealing with Energy sector regulatory matters, policy reform or development and Government Departments/Regulators at a senior level (or another highly regulated sector).- Demonstrated experience in developing strategic positions and influencing external stakeholders to deliver robust outcomes- Experience in general business management and a sound understanding of business drivers
