About the business unit
Through its Regulation and Dispute Services Group, the Department of Government Services (‘the department') leads regulatory functions across the Consumer Affairs portfolio.
The Regulation and Dispute Services portfolio interacts with a number of other government portfolios and impacts on everyday Victorians, a range of industries and a number of occupations. This demands that the unit consider communication and engagement as part of policy development and maintain effective engagement with agencies, industry and community stakeholders.
About the role
The role of a Policy Officer is to provide authoritative policy advice informed by strategic thinking and analysing relevant evidence, supported by targeted stakeholder engagement and sound project management. The position performs a key role in assisting teams in the development of cabinet submissions on policy and legislative issues and the development of regulations and legislative instruments.
Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to collaboration are essential in the delivery of the position's purpose.
**Some of your duties will include**:
- Providing clear and accurate advice about policy issues arising in Regulation Policy.
- Preparing high quality written materials in a variety of formats and providing verbal advice which is appropriately adapted to its audience, clear and accurate, and reflects governmental and organisational priorities.
- Undertaking research into specific aspects of legislation, regulations, and policies relevant to regulation policy.
- Assisting in the development, consideration and evaluation of legislative and other regulatory reform options.
- Contributing to projects including preparing and maintaining project management documentation, delivering allocated tasks in line with project milestones, and working effectively with other staff supporting the project.
- Building effective relationships with senior colleagues to develop understanding of strategic priorities for Regulation Policy and proactively develop skills in priority learning areas.

About you
**To be successful in this role, you will have the ability to**:
- Research issues and prepare draft reports and briefings within a project plan or policy framework set by others.
- Obtain, summarise and report on stakeholder views.
- Plan and conduct several narrowly scoped projects simultaneously, and conduct aspects of more complex projects under direction.
- Contribute to planning on large projects.
**Qualifications**:
- An undergraduate qualification is essential, in either public policy, economics or law.
