The Western Australian Police Union of Workers (WAPU) is seeking a Field Officer to play a pivotal role in advocating for the rights and interests of police officers and police auxiliary officers in Western Australia. This role involves maintaining an active presence with WAPU members in their workplaces and supporting WAPU Branches. The role is responsible for advocating on behalf of the members by providing support, guidance and advice on employment-related matters, ensuring compliance with employment conditions and employer policies. The Field Officer plays a key role in promoting the objectives and initiatives of WAPU, including industrial activity and campaigns.

The WA Police Union of Workers (WAPU) represents the professional and industrial interests of nearly 7,000 police officers, police recruits, cadets and police auxiliary officers employed by the WA Police Force. Covering the portfolios of; Legal, Industrial Relations, WHS, Welfare, Media, Internal Advocacy, Research, Administration and Member Services, WAPU plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction and ensuring the well-being of its constituents. WAPU is registered with the WA Industrial Relations Commission (WAIRC) and affiliated with the Police Federation of Australia (PFA).

**About the Role**
**Key Responsibilities**:

- Actively support the recruitment of new members by promoting WAPU membership benefits.
- Collaborate with WAPU Branch Officials to drive engagement, assist in coordinating and facilitating meetings, elections and events to address member concerns and advance WAPU objectives.
- Provide WAPU members with accurate and timely advice on a wide range of critical workplace issues and employment related matters, while advocating for fair outcomes and optimal working conditions.
- Support the welfare of WAPU members by encouraging the utilisation of their employer provided resources by actively promoting awareness of mental health services and wellness initiatives available to support personal or work-related challenges.
- Assist in planning, coordinating and managing industrial activity and action, ensuring alignment with WAPU goals.
- Provide guidance and clear advice on rights and responsibilities to WAPU members during industrial action. Work to secure favourable outcomes that improve employment conditions for police officers and auxiliary officers.
- Support educational programs for WAPU Branch Officials and members on industrial topics, ensuring that Branch Officials and members are informed and empowered to understand and assert their industrial rights.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of both WAPU Branch and member interactions, ensuring that all actions and cases are handled efficiently and in accordance with WAPU policies and procedures.

**About You**
- A degree or diploma (or progression towards) in industrial relations, human resources, work health and safety or a related field is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with employee relations, dispute resolution or union activities, preferably within a public sector or law enforcement environment.
- Familiarity with collective bargaining processes, managing industrial action or negotiating workplace agreements.
- Excellent communication, advocacy and negotiation skills, with the ability to represent members effectively in a variety of forums.
- Ability to engage in crucial, difficult or courageous conversations with professionalism and empathy, addressing sensitive issues while maintaining respect and integrity.
- Experience providing training, coaching or mentoring to staff, teams or union representatives.
- Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
- Experience in the public sector, law enforcement or a unionised environment is highly desirable.
- A valid driver’s licence.
